CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (23-8, 15-5 CCAC) defeated the Saint Xavier University Cougars (24-7, 16-4 CCAC) by a score 67-65.
Saturday's victory gives the Titans their third CCAC Tournament Championship in the last four years and automatically advances them into the NAIA National Tournament.
The 2023 CCAC Tournament Championship featured ten lead changes in the first half with the Saint Xavier Cougars taking a four point lead heading into halftime.
The Titans trailed until the thirteen minute mark when a
Sam Snodgrass four point play gave IU South Bend a 49-48 lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.
10 second half points from senior guard
Kenny Washington helped carve the path for the Titans to win their third conference championship in four years.
IU South Bend featured three players in double digits in the scoring column, led by
Kenny Washington and
Dejon Barney who both finished with 14 points.
Barney's 14 points came on 7-12 shooting from the field as the junior forward notched his eighth double-double of the season finishing with 10 rebounds to go along with his 14 points.
Kenny Washington scored his 14 points on better than 50% shooting from the field as the senior guard played in 30 of the 40 minutes in Saturday's contest.
The last Titan to record double figures was senior guard
Donyell Meredith II who finished with 12 points on better than 44% shooting from the field and 40% from the three point line. With 12 points in Saturday's CCAC Tournament Championship, Meredith II finished the conference tournament with 47 total points which led all Titans.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on March 7th, when they begin the NAIA National Tournament. The Titans find out their location and opponent in the national tournament on Thursday, March 2nd, at 6:00 PM.
