Titans drop game three of opening trip

KINGSPORT, Tenn.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (1-2, 0-0 CCAC) lost to the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders (2-1, 0-0 MSC) by a score of 5-3. The Titans conclude their first road trip of the season with a win over Thomas More University and losses to West Virginia University Institute of Technology and Lindsey Wilson College.

Senior Sam Hinshaw got the ball in game three for IU South Bend, pitching three innings while only allowing one run on three hits and striking out three.

Designated hitter Kaleb Farnham got the scoring started for the Titans, tying the game at 1-1 with a fourth inning solo homerun to right center field.

Cal Whitaker came on to relieve Hinshaw in the bottom of the fourth. After retiring the first two Blue Raiders he faced, Whitaker surrendered three consecutive hits to give Lindsey Wilson back the lead at 2-1. With runners on second and third with two outs, Whitaker got leadoff hitter Michael Sizemore to groundout to escape the jam.

Three more insurance runs for the Blue Raiders in the fifth and seventh innings, found the Titans staring at a four run deficit heading into the top of the eighth inning.

An eighth inning sacrifice fly by Gabe Cortez scored Josiah Nelson to bring IU South Bend within three heading into the final frame.

Senior Jake Vanderwoude led off the ninth inning with a homerun down the left field line to bring the Titans within two with only three outs remaining.

Following the Vanderwoude homerun, Anthony Pohl singled to bring the tying run to the plate for the Titans. Two fly outs and a fielder's choice ended Sunday's contest with IU South Bend dropping game three of the weekend to Lindsey Wilson College by a score of 5-3.
