CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (6-16, 2-3 CCAC) dropped a pair of games to the Saint Xavier University Cougars (11-15, 3-2 CCAC) by scores of 8-4 and 13-3.
Game 1
Senior right handed pitcher
Payton Carney got the start on the mound for IU South Bend in game one, pitching two innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out one.Â
The Cougars of Saint Xavier did all of their scoring in the second and third innings, plating four runs in each frame.Â
Offensively, the titans were held to just four hits with singles coming from
Kole Miller,
Logan Smith,
Brenden Bell, and
Owen Benson.Â
IU South Bend pushed two of their four runs across thanks to a two RBI single from
Kole Miller. Miller's base hit provided his eighth and ninth RBI of the season, moving him into a for the fourth most on the team.Â
The Titans scratched out their final two runs via error and passed ball, but ultimately fell in game one by a score of 8-4.Â
Game 2
The Cougars pushed across two runs off of starter
Taylor Clifton in the second inning to give themselves a 2-0 lead.Â
A Saint Xavier throwing error and
Brenden Bell double plated two Titan runs in the third to tie the ballgame at 2-2.
An eight run Saint Xavier fourth inning broke the game open and found the Titans trailing 10-2 through four innings of play.Â
Brenden Bell grounded into a fielder's choice that scored
Anthony Pohl to conclude the IU South Bend scoring.
Saint Xavier scored one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to send the Titans home early, losing by a final score of 13-3.Â
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, March 24th, when they host the Trinity International University Trojans at 2:00 PM ET.
