WHITING, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (14-21, 10-8 CCAC) defeated the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave (14-25, 6-12 CCAC) by a score of 17-3.
Junior right handed pitcher
Matt Lood started on the mound for the Titans and earned the victory over CCSJ by pitching two innings of one run baseball while allowing just two hits and striking out two.
Riley Getman relieved Lood, pitching a scoreless third inning while allowing only one hit and striking out one.
Senior right hander
Robbie Berger relieved Getman, pitching four innings allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out four.
Junior southpaw
Jaidyn Morris relieved Berger and pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning to secure the win for IU South Bend.
Left fielder
Josiah Nelson got the Titans on the board with his first home run of the 2023 season to give IU South Bend a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Nelson extended the Titans lead with a 2 RBI single to further the lead to 4-1.
Brenden Bell and
Kole Miller both had RBI singles in the top of the fifth to extend the IU South Bend lead to 6-1.
IU South Bend added to their lead in the seventh inning when
Kaleb Farnham and
Kole Miller both hit RBI doubles, followed by another
Josiah Nelson RBI single to give the Titans a 10-1 lead.
CCSJ plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh before IU South Bend broke the game open for good with seven runs in the eighth inning.
Logan Smith and
Brett Sikorski both knocked two run home runs to right field to give IU South Bend a 14-3 lead.
Catcher
Drew Barber followed up with a 2 RBI double down the left field line before a CCSJ error drove in the final run of the game as IU South Bend went on to win 17-3 in eight innings.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, April 15th, with a doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph at 1:00 PM ET at Rex Weade Stadium.
