Titans split doubleheader with Roosevelt

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (13-22, 5-8 CCAC) split a doubleheader against the Roosevelt University Lakers (20-15, 9-10 CCAC), losing game one 3-0 before winning game two 1-0.

Game 1

Sophomore pitcher Maddy Edwards started on the mound in game one, pitching four and one third innings while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out four. Right handed pitcher Abigail Yarnell relieved Edwards with one out in the top of the fifth and pitched the remainder of game one without allowing a hit.

The Roosevelt Lakers struck first in game one when designated player Kirstin Fudge doubled to left field to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Roosevelt University plated two more in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Brynn Dvoracek and Scout Kram, extending their lead to 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

The Titans best chance to score came in the bottom of the third when left fielder Kaitlynne Allen tripled to lead off the inning. Three consecutive IU South Bend strikeouts left Allen stranded on third base, as the Titans went on to get shutout in game one.

Game 2

Sophomore Jordan Watts hit her first homerun of the season in the bottom of the first to give IU South Bend a 1-0 lead through one inning of play.

One run proved to be all the Titans would need as sophomore pitcher Abigail Yarnell threw a complete game shutout, allowing just five scattered hits and walking none while throwing only seventy six pitches.

Yarnell threw a total of nine and two third innings in Wednesday's doubleheader without allowing a single run.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, April 22nd, when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., for a doubleheader against the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves.
