GRANGER, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (11-19, 7-6 CCAC) dropped game one of their three game series with the Trinity Christian College Trolls (17-14, 11-2 CCAC) by a score of 4-2. Friday's loss drops the Titans to sixth place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Junior
Matt Lood started on the mound for IU South Bend, pitching two innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Riley Getman relieved Lood and allowed two runs to score on a two run homerun by Trolls catcher Anthony Cappelletti in the top of the third inning. Two runs allowed in Friday's loss broke a streak of five consecutive scoreless appearances for Getman.
Senior right hander
Robbie Berger relieved Getman and continued his stellar play on the mound, pitching six innings without allowing an earned run and striking out three.
The difference in Friday's contest were two unearned runs that crossed the plate for Trinity Christian in the top of the eighth inning.
The IU South Bend scoring came via homerun when designated hitter
Kaleb Farnham blasted a two run homerun to right center field in the bottom of the first inning. Farnham's long ball was his fourth of the 2023 season, tying him with
Brett Sikorski for the team lead.
Farnham's two run homerun gives him 28 runs batted in so far this year, good for the fourth most in the CCAC.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, April 8th, when they travel to Palos Heights for a doubleheader against Trinity Christian College.
