Titans fall to Trinity Christian to even CCAC record to 1-1

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (1-8, 1-1 CCAC) fell in straight sets to the Trinity Christian Trolls (2-7, 1-1 CCAC) by scores of 19-25, 18-25, 20-25. 

Set 1

Tied at 7-7, IU South Bend scored four straight thanks to a kill by Abby Seeger and multiple kills by junior Macy Sherman to take an 11-7 lead. Back and forth points through Tuesday's first set saw the Titans leading 19-16 before the Trolls scored the final 9 points to take set one by a score of 25-16. 

Set 2

Four different ties in set two found the Titans and Trolls tied as late as 16-16 before Trinity Christian scored nine of the eleven points to win set two 25-18. 

Set 3

IU South Bend jumped out to an early 8-6 thanks to multiple kills by Ryleigh Grott, Felisha Campanello, Macy Sherman. Trinity Christian responded with four consecutive points to regain the lead at 10-8. Falling behind at 13-9, IUSB scored seven of the next eight points to take a 16-14 lead. Tied as late as 19-19, the Trolls scored six of the next seven points to win the match, taking set three by a score of 25-20. 

Offensively, the Titans were led by junior hitter Ryleigh Grott who finished with twelve kills and Macy Sherman who finished with nine kills while setter Emma Knowlton led the passing game with 31 assists. Defensively, sophomore Sydney Hanna had 28 digs while Felisha Campanello led the charge at the net with three blocks. 

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Thursday, September 7th, when they play their first home game, hosting the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University at 7:00 PM in the Student Activities Center.
