SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (11-4, 6-1 CCAC) fell to the Saint Xavier University Cougars (9-6, 4-3 CCAC) by a final score of 90-78. Wednesday's loss snaps the streak of eight straight wins for the Titans and moves them into a tie for second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Trading baskets throughout the duration of the first half, neither team led by more than four as two last second Saint Xavier free throws helped the Cougars take a 36-35 lead headed into the locker room.
Outscored by 11 in the final 20 minutes of Wednesday's contest, 18 second half points from three time CCAC Player of the Week Cedric Johnson proved to be the difference as IU South Bend fell to Saint Xavier by a final score of 90-78.
The IU South Bend offense featured three different Titans to score in double figures, led by senior forward
Dejon Barney who finished with a team high 18 points.
Barney's 18 points came on better than 50% shooting from the field while also going 3-4 from the free throw and three point line.
Barney finished just one rebound shy of his eighth double-double of the season as he fouled out with under three minutes to play. Still, at better than nine rebounds per game, Barney holds the CCAC lead in rebounds per game.
The next Titan to record double figures in the scoring column was forward
Jylen Petty, who finished with 17 points.
Petty's 17 points came on 70% shooting from the field and 50% from the three point line. With two three point field goals in Wednesday's contest, Petty has hit at least two three pointers in 10 of the 15 games this season.
The last Titan to score in double figures was senior guard
Sam Snodgrass, who finished with 12 points.
Snodgrass' 12 points came on better than 50% shooting from the field and a perfect three for three from the free throw line.
Snodgrass' 12 points gives him back to back games of scoring at least 10 points.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, January 13th, when they travel to Davenport, Iowa, to take on the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University at 4:00 PM ET.
