SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (1-0, 0-0 CCAC) won their season opening contest against the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars (1-2, 0-0 Conf.) by a final score of 67-62.
Saturday's season opener saw the Titans jump out to a big first quarter lead, outscoring the Cougars 24-12 including a 14-0 run in the first 10 minutes of play.
IU South Bend was outscored by just three points in the second quarter but still managed to take a nine point lead into the locker room at halftime.
Saturday's third quarter proved to be unfriendly to the Titans as they were outscore by 13 points to find themselves trailing 50-46 heading into the fourth.
Back and forth in the fourth quarter, the Titans were able to pull away late in the game thanks to a 7-2 run to close out the same, sending IU South Bend home victorious ny a final score of 67-62.
A two headed monster on offense for IUSB featured two Titans to score over 20 points, led by reigning CCAC 1st Team All-Conference selection
Tenleigh Phelps who finished with a game high 29 points.
Phelps' 29 points came on better than 50% shooting from the field while also knocking down nine of the ten free throws that she attempted and securing nine rebounds, one short of a double-double.
The other Titan to light up the scoreboard was guard
Jazmen Watts who finished with 24 points.
Watts' 24 points also came on better than 50% shooting while also knocking down a pair of three pointers and free throws.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Tuesday, November 5th, when they the Red Wolves of Indiana University East at 5:30 PM ET in the Student Activities Center.
