CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (24-1, 16-1 CCAC) suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Saint Xavier University Cougars (15-9, 13-4 CCAC) by a final score of 72-55.
The Titans still remain on top of the CCAC, ahead of second place Governors State University by two games. With one win in their remaining three games, IU South Bend will clinch the CCAC Regular Season Championship.
Trading baskets through the first quarter, the Titans and Cougars were tied at 15-15 at the end of Wednesday's first quarter.
IUSB ended the first half trailing by four before being outscored in both the third and fourth quarters, ultimately falling to Saint Xavier by a final score of 72-55.
The Titans offense featured three players to score in double figures, led by guard
Maddie Gard who finished with a game high 23 points.
Gard finished as the only Titan to reach 20 points while making six field goals and tying her season high with 10 made free throws.
The next Titan to score in double figures was
Tenleigh Phelps who finished with 12 points.
With 12 points on four made field goals while playing in all 40 minutes on Wednesday, Phelps keeps her CCAC leading field goal percentage at better than 60%.
The last Titan to reach double figures in the scoring column was guard
Katie Gard who finished with 11 points.
Gard's 11 points came on three triples while falling just three rebounds short of double-double status.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, February 17th, when they return to Chicago, Ill., to take on the Lakers of Roosevelt University at 2:00 PM ET looking to hoist the CCAC regular season crown.
