DUNBAR, WV. – The Indiana South Bend baseball team (4-5, 0-0 CCAC) split their doubleheader, defeating the Rio Grande Red Storm 14-2 in seven innings and losing to Indiana University Purdue University Columbus 6-4
GAME 1
The Titans started the game hot with a 4 spot on the Red Storm with RBIs from Jack Ryan, Anthony Pohl, Gabe Cortez, and Braedon Leathed. In the bottom of the frame the Red Storm were able to scratch back with a run of their own, making the game a 4-1 ballgame after the first inning.
In the second inning, the Titans would find another run, this time again coming from an Anthony Pohl RBI single. In the third inning more of the same from the Titans as Braedon Leathed would find a barrel, scoring Gabe Cortez on an RBI single. Freshman Sam Garner would get in on the action as well driving in Braedon Leathed on a error, making the score 7-1 after 3 innings of baseball
The Titans continued their scoring ways as they tacked on another run in the 4th inning coming on a Gabe Cortez RBI double. In the 5th inning the Titans would score 4 more runs off 2 wild pitches, a Jack Ryan RBI ground out, and a Charlie Martini RBI single, furthering the score to 11-1 after five innings.
In the 6th inning the Red Storm would grab a run back off an RBI double to center field.
In the 7th inning the Titans would respond, when Braedon Leathed smashed a 2 RBI double to left field. The game ended via run rule in the 7th inning 14-2.
GAME 2
IUPUC would start the action taking the lead in the first inning with a RBI double to center field. The Crimson Pride would add another run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to right field and in the 4th inning put up two more on a RBI single and a wild pitch. Leaving the Titans down 4-0 after 4 innings of play.
In the 5th inning the Titans offense would surge after a Logan Smith walk, a Jack Ryan double to right field, and an Anthony Pohl three run home run, leaving the Titans trailing only by 1 going into the bottom half of the frame.
In the 6th inning, Donnie Necas would bunt for hit, followed by a stolen base to put himself into scoring position, Braedon Leathed would walk, Devin Smith would be hit by a pitch loading the bases. After an error by the second basemen, Donnie Necas scored. Tying the game at 4-4.
In the bottom half of the inning the Crimson Pride would regain the lead on a 2 RBI single to center field, making the score 6-4.
The game would finish with a final score of 6-4.
The Titans next series will be this Friday, March 2nd in Fairborn, Ohio, when they take on Wright State Lake, in a four-game set before departing for their spring trip down to Florida the following week.
