Titans defeat Governors State as five players score in double figures

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (16-6, 11-3 CCAC) defeated the Governors State University Jaguars (6-15, 4-9 CCAC) by a final score of 89-74.

Saturday's win improves the Titans winning streak to four consecutive games and keeps them in sole possession of second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

A red hot start out of the gate for Governors State saw the Jaguars jump out to a 15-6 lead through just five minutes of play.

The Titans answered with a 27-11 run of their own to gain a comfortable six point led with five minutes to play in the first half that helped them take a 46-34 lead into halftime.

A closer second half saw the Titans outscore Governors State 43-40 to bring home the victory by a final score of 89-74.

A balanced IUSB offense saw five different Titans score in double figures, led by senior forward Dejon Barney who finished with 21 points.

Barney's 21 points came on just three missed field goals (10-13) while falling just one rebound short of double-double status. However, Barney remains the only player in the CCAC to average a double-double on the season.

The next Titan to score in double figures was Jylen Petty who finished with 16 points.

Petty's 16 points came on nearly 60% shooting from the field (7-12) while also knocking down a three pointer and a free throw. 16 points in Saturday's win gives Petty his sixth game this season scoring more than 15 points.

The next Titan to record double figures in the scoring column was senior Sam Snodgrass who finished with 15 points.

Snodgrass' 15 point came on 5-8 shooting from the field, all beyond the three point line. 15 points on Saturday gives Snodgrass his fifth game this season scoring in double figures while knocking down a career high five three point field goals.

Guards Quentez Columbus and Terry Ford also finished in double figures, Columbus poured in 13 points while Ford finished with 10.

Columbus shot 50% from the field and from the three point line for his 12th game this season scoring in double figures while Terry Ford reached double-double status for the first time this season by dishing out 10 assists.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, February 7th, when they travel to Whiting, Ind., to take on the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson at 8:00 PM ET.
