CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (9-12, 0-0 CCAC) dropped a pair of games to the Saint Xavier University Cougars (10-11, 3-1 CCAC) by scores of 7-3 and 9-5.
Game 1
The Cougars of Saint Xavier jumped out to an early lead, plating six runs on five hits including a grand slam.
Saint Xavier tacked on another run in the bottom of the third on another home run to extend their lead to 7-0.
IU South Bend got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with three straight RBI singles from
Josiah Nelson,
Devin Smith, and
Braedon Leathed to cut their deficit to 7-3.
The Titans were held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and ultimately dropped game one of the doubleheader.
Game 2
IU South Bend got on the board first in game two when designated hitter
Kaleb Farnham hit an RBI single to drive in
Logan Smith and give the Titans an early 1-0 lead.
The Cougars answered right back, scoring two runs on three hits to take a one run lead.
Four more Cougar runs in the bottom of the second extended the Saint Xavier lead to 6-1.
IUSB began to claw back into the game when
Kaleb Farnham drove in his second and third runs of the game, cutting the Titans deficit to three at 6-3.
Still the Cougars answered right back, plating two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 8-3.
Sixth and eighth inning RBIs from
Braedon Leathed brought the Titans closer, now trailing by just three runs. However IU South Bend was blanked for the remainder of the game, dropping game two 9-5.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, March 16th, with another doubleheader at Saint Xavier University starting at 1:00 PM ET.
