DAVENPORT, IA.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (11-17, 3-7 CCAC) dropped both games of their doubleheader to the Saint Ambrose University Fighting Bees (10-11, 4-4 CCAC) falling in game one 9-8 before losing game two 5-4 in 11 innings.
Game 1
Saint Ambrose took the lead in game one in the bottom of the third inning when the Fighting Bees plating five runs on four hits.
IU South Bend answered in the top of the fifth, scoring seven runs on six hits to take a two run lead.
Logan Smith and
Josiah Nelson each hit RBI doubles while
Evan Fortson,
Anthony Pohl, and
Jack Ryan connecting for RBI singles before
Gabe Cortez wrapped up the fifth inning scoring with a sacrifice fly.
However, the Fighting Bees responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain a 9-7 lead.
Josiah Nelson's seventh inning sacrifice fly brought IUSB within one but the Titans could not score again and dropped game one 9-8.
Game 2
IU South Bend took the lead of game two in the top of the third inning when
Logan Smith and
Anthony Pohl each hit RBI singles to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.
Saint Ambrose then quickly answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.
Both teams again traded runs in the fourth inning to even the score at 3-3.
A seventh inning sacrifice fly gave Saint Ambrose the lead before center fielder
Braedon Leathed's RBI single helped the game reach extra inning tied at 4-4.
IUSB was held scoreless in extra innings before the Fighting Bees walked off the Titans in the bottom of the eleventh, taking game two 5-4 in eleven innings.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, March 30th, when they conclude their season series with Saint Ambrose with another doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM ET.
