AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (8-9, 0-0 CCAC) dropped both games of a double header versus Aquinas College by final scores 7-3 and 4-2.
Game 1
The Saints offense was able to get things going in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 5 hits. They added another run to their tally the 2nd inning, in the 3rd inning the Saints added another 2 runs, pushing the total to 7 through the first three innings.
Junior pitcher
Cade Van Ness would keep the Titans in the game pitching 4 innings with 4 strikeouts, while allowing 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Before throwing up 3 scoreless innings to keep the Saints offense at bay.
At the plate, the Titans would find a way to scratch a run across in the 5th inning with a
Kaleb Farnham single, where he would later score on a
Gabe Cortez sacrifice fly.
Lucky Teerman would pitch a scoreless 7th inning of baseball that included his first career strikeout setting the table for a Titans 7th inning rally.
The Titans would find a way to load the bases in the 7th inning with hits from
Braedon Leathed and
Josiah Nelson and a
Devin Smith hit-by-pitch. The Titans plated 2 of those runs on passed balls by the Saints, but could not push anymore across, ultimately falling 7-3 to Aquinas in game one.
Game 2
Game 2 would see the visiting Titans start the scoring in the top of the 1st inning plating 2 runs off of 2 hits.
Gabe Cortez would follow up the Titans offense by punching out the side in the bottom half of the 1st inning.
In the 3rd inning the Saints would scratch 1 run back on no hits. Aquinas later square the game up at 2-2 in the 5th inning on an RBI triple.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Saints would plate 2 more runs on 3 hits, with the game ending 4-2 in favor of Aquinas.
The Titans return to action on Friday, March 8th, in their final game of the spring trip versus Northwestern (Iowa) then begin CCAC action on Tuesday, March 12th, in a 2:00 PM ET doubleheader at Judson University.
