SANFORD, Fla.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (8-10, 0-0 CCAC) lost their final game of the Russmatt Invitational to the Northwestern College (8-8) Red Raiders by a final score of 16-5.
IU South Bend fell in an early 4-0 when Northwestern plated four runs on four hits in the top of the first inning.
The Titans cut their lead in half in the bottom of the second when shortstop
Jack Ryan's 2 RBI single drove in
Evan Fortson and
Josiah Nelson to shorten the IUSB deficit to 4-2.
The game remained 4-2 until the fifth inning when the Red Raiders scratched one run across in the top of the frame before the Titans answered with two runs of their own on a Northwestern error and a wild pitch to bring IUSB within one run, now trailing 5-4.
The Northwestern Red Raiders scored three runs in both the top of the sixth and seventh innings to extend their lead to 11-4.
IU South Bend plated one run in the bottom of the seventh when
Jack Ryan's third RBI of the day drove in
Braedon Leathed to bring the Titans within six.
Five Red Raider runs in the eighth inning ended the game early, with the Titans falling by a final score of 16-5.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action when they begin CCAC play on Tuesday, March 12th, when they travel to Judson University for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM ET.
