Titans split doubleheader on the road at Trinity Christian College

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.- In a return to CCAC play the Titans (12-20 Overall, 4-10 CCAC) traveled on the road to Trinity Christian College (16-16 Overall, 8-6 CCAC) for day one of the season series versus the Trolls. The Titans split the double header winning game one 3-2 before dropping game two 7-4.

Game 1

Game one saw very little action as Devin Smith would hold the Trolls to zero runs through two innings of work. Gabe Cortez would relieve Devin Smith in the top of the 3rd inning. The bottom of the 4th inning would see the deadlock broken as the Trolls would push across two runs on one hit.

The Titans would respond immediately in the top of the 5th inning, A Logan Smith single up the middle, followed by a stolen base would set the table for a Kaleb Farnham RBI ground out.

Gabe Cortez would throw up a quick zero, getting the Titans offense back to the plate where they would push across another run in the top of the 6th inning on a Josiah Nelson home run to right center field tying the game at 2-2.

Jack Kienzle would enter the game in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 outs, striking out the Troll hitter on three straight pitches. The Titans ran with the momentum and took the lead in the top of the 7th inning, on a RBI single by Anthony Pohl. Jack Kienzle would fight through adversity in the bottom half of the inning, after the Trolls loaded the bases with one out. A pair of strike outs by Jack Kienzle would see the Titans get themselves back in the win column.

Game 2

Much like game one the first run would not be scored until the 4th inning. The Trolls were able to strike first, scoring one run in the bottom of the 4th inning on two hits. The Titans responded immediately in the top of the 5th inning pushing across four runs of their own on a Quinn Meier home run, a Braedon Lethead RBI single, a Logan Smith sacrifice fly, and a Gabe Cortez RBI ground out.

The bottom of the 5th would see the Trolls chip away at the Titans lead pushing across another run on 2 more hits. In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Trolls offense would put up 4 of their own runs on 4 hits, taking the lead 6-2. The Trolls next time at the plate would see them push across an insurance run, making the score 7-4 going into the Titans last at bat.

The Titans were unable to rally in the top of the 9th dropping game 2 to the Trolls 7-4.

The Titans will return to the ball diamond Saturday, March 6th looking to win the season series with the Trolls by taking both games tomorrow. Due to weather conditions, tomorrow double header has been moved to Northwood Highschool in Nappanee, Ind.
