Titans defeat Saint Xavier on the road

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (12-2, 5-2 CCAC) defeated the Saint Xavier University Cougars (9-6, 5-2 CCAC) by a final score of 80-67 to move into a tie for second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Tied at 5-5 early in the first quarter, IU South Bend scored seven straight points and 13 of the next 16 points to end the first quarter leading 18-9.

Wednesday's second quarter opened in favor of the Cougars with Saint Xavier opening the period on a 10-5 run to cut their deficit to 23-19. From that moment the Titans edged out the Cougars for the rest of the second quarter, taking a 34-30 lead into halftime.

The third quarter remained tight the entire 10 minutes with IUSB outscoring Saint Xavier by just one point, enough to take a 52-47 leading heading into the final period of the contest.

The Cougars could not tie the game throughout the fourth quarter as the Titans bested Saint Xavier 28-20 in the period with help from freshman guard Aubrie Booker who scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, helping lead the Titans to an 80-67 over Saint Xavier University.

The Indiana University South Bend offense featured three scorers in double figures, led by Tenleigh Phelps who finsihed with 26 points.

Phelps' 26 points improves her season average to 21.6 points per game, good for second in the CCAC while her 55% shooting from the field and her 57% shooting from the three point line move her into the top five in the conference in each category.

Another Titan to score in double figures was guard Jazmen Watts who finished with 17 points.

Watts' 17 points came on nearly 55% shooting from the field (5-7) while knocking down two the four three point field goals that she attempted while falling just one rebound short of her second double-double of the seasom.

The last Titan to reach double figures in the scoring column was Aubrie Booker who finished with 10 points.

Booker's 10 point came on 50% shooting from the field and the three point line while playing in just 21 minutes of action in Wednesday's contest.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, January 11th, when they host the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University at 1:00 PM ET in the Student Activities Center.
