LAKEVILLE, Ind. - The IU South Bend women's soccer team displayed gritty determination on Tuesday evening, rallying from a one-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Governors State University in a hard-fought Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest at Newton Park.
The Jaguars of Governors State struck first late in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead when Ana Rodrigues converted a penalty kick at the 27:17 mark. The Titans' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Rylee Cotton (7 saves), kept the deficit at one heading into the break despite a strong finish to the half.
IU South Bend's offense ignited immediately in the second half, completely shifting the momentum with two quick goals. Just over four minutes after the restart, sophomore Aryanna Allen found the equalizer, scoring unassisted at the 49:36 mark to knot the game at 1-1. The Titans took the lead ten minutes later when sophomore star Olivia Enyeart netted her first goal of the season (59:32) off an assist from Kaley Kiefer, putting IUSB up 2-1. Enyeart was a relentless offensive force all night, leading all players with 12 total shots, six of which were on goal.
The lead held up until the final minutes of play. Governors State managed to spoil the Titans' comeback effort when Koumba Dembele scored the late equalizer at 83:03, assisted by Hannah Mailander, settling the final score at 2-2.
IU South Bend travels to Palos Heights, IL on Friday to take on Trinity Christian. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
