Regular Season Finale; Tournament on Deck

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. --- IU South Bend volleyball closed out its regular season with a marathon on Thursday night, taking Trinity Christian the distance before narrowly falling in a five-set thriller (26-24, 15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 11-15).

Despite the loss, the Titans (13-19, 9-9 CCAC) hold a spot in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, finishing as one of the top eight teams in the league. IU South Bend will open postseason play in the CCAC Quarterfinals next Tuesday.

The first set set the tone for the night — a back-and-forth frame that saw the Titans claw back from an early 14-8 deficit. Emalee Maesch and Jillian Bruckner each put away key kills during a late surge, and Ryleigh Grott sealed the comeback with a powerful swing for the 26-24 win.

Trinity Christian regrouped in the second, using strong serving to disrupt the IUSB offense early. Despite back-to-back aces from Maesch to tie it 3-3, the Trolls went on a 9-1 run midway through the set and held on 25-15 to even the match.

The third set belonged to IU South Bend's front line. Bree Lake and Grott helped the Titans build a 12-8 cushion, and a late 3-0 burst — capped by a service ace from Kiera Aguirre — helped close out a 25-21 win to put IUSB back in front.

Momentum shifted again in the fourth, as Trinity Christian took advantage of several long rallies to grab an early lead. The Titans pulled within 17-15 after kills from Emily Adams and Brynn Lake, but the Trolls stayed steady down the stretch to take the frame 25-19 and force a fifth.

The deciding set was as tight as the match itself. IU South Bend struck first with a pair of points from Bree Lake and a TCC attack error, then traded side-outs until a 6-1 run swung control for the Trolls. The host squad went on to secure the match, 15-11.

Maesch finished with 12 kills, eight digs, and two aces, while Grott delivered eight kills and three block assists. Lake added seven kills on .364 hitting, and Carson and Hostetler chipped in a combined 11 kills. Brynn Lake directed the offense with 40 assists and 13 digs, and Sydney Hanna added to her strong senior season with a team-high 29 digs.

The Titans hit .158 as a team and tallied six total blocks.

IU South Bend will now shift focus to the CCAC Tournament Quarterfinals, set for Tuesday, November 11.
