FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana University South Bend Softball Team (1-5, 0-0 CCAC) lost both games of a midweek non-conference doubleheader to Huntington University (4-0, 0-0 Conf.) by scores of 5-0 and 6-3.
Game 1 (L 5-0)
The Titan offense was quiet in their first action since their opening weekend a week and a half ago. IUSB was one hit in the opener of a road doubleheader against the Foresters of Huntington University with the lone hit coming from
Jordan Watts in the fourth inning. The Foresters scored two runs in the third inning and 3 runs in the fourth inning as it would be all they needed to go on and win game one. The Titans sent three different pitchers to the circle in the game,
Savannah Hamilton got the start going 3.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run, and striking out 1 while picking up the loss.
Jaylah Harlan and
Abigail Yarnell both threw in relief, Harlan threw 1.2 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, and struck out 1. Yarnell threw a scoreless last inning for the Titans giving up only 1 hit and striking out 1.
Game 2 (L 6-3)
Errors got the best of the Titans in game two as they allowed six runs, with only four of them being earned. IUSB had the lead 3-2 through three innings of play, but Huntington responded with a four run fourth inning taking advantage of two Titan errors to regain the lead 6-3. Both teams were scoreless for the rest of the game as pitching led the way in the final three innings.
Maddie Leisher had the two lone RBIs for the Titans on two run home run in the second inning.
Abigail Yarnell suffered the loss going 4.1 innings allowing 6 runs, 4 earned runs, and striking out 5.
Elyse Starr finished the game in the circle throw 1.2 innings giving up 0 runs on just 2 hits.
The IUSB Titans Softball Team returns to action tomorrow February 28th at Indiana Tech University for another non-conference doubleheader starting at 2pm Eastern Time.
