FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana University South Bend Softball Team (2-6, 0-0 CCAC) split their road non-conference doubleheader against Indiana Tech University (2-4, 0-0 Conf.) losing game one 5-4 and taking the second game 11-6.
Game 1 (L 5-4)
A two run rally in the seventh wasn't enough as the Titans ran out of time before falling to Indiana Tech 5-4 in game one of the doubleheader. Indiana Tech came out swinging scoring two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning jumping out to an early 4-0 lead. The Titans responded with two runs in the top of the third inning to inch their way back into the game, but the Warriors added one of their own in the bottom half of the inning bringing the game 5-2 in favor of Indiana Tech through three full innings of play. After a scoreless fourth, fifth, and sixth innings the Titans went to bat for one last time with hopes of making a comeback. A
Jordan Watts RBI single and an
Abigail Yarnell RBI double with two outs brought IUSB within one run and a runner in scoring position, but Indiana Tech was able to get a flyout to end the game.
Jordan Watts led the offense going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI's while
Summer Johnson also had an RBI going 2-3 at the plate. Starting Pitcher
Savannah Hamilton got the loss going 4.0 innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2.
Abigail Yarnell threw 2.0 scoreless innings of relief giving up 3 hits and striking out 2.
Game 2 (W 11-6)
An eight run fourth inning propelled the Titans to an 11-6 win in game two to avoid the sweep. IUSBÂ was down 2-0 through three innings but the big inning in the fourth was all the Titans would need despite Indiana Tech scoring three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. An extra three runs for IUSB in the sixth inning gave them the cushion they would need to cruise to an 11-6 victory.
Maddie Leisher had a big game at the plate going 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI's.
Alexis Riem also had 3 RBI's in her 2-5 game, while
Jordan Watts added a home run to the hit parade.
Elyse Starr picked up the win throwing 6.0 innings giving up 6 runs, 5 earned, on 8 hits while striking out 4.Â
Next on the docket for the Titans is a road doubleheader with Taylor University on Friday March 7th starting at 2pm Eastern Time.
