Titans secure road victory in Iowa

DAVENPORT, Iowa- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (14-10, 11-5 CCAC) defeated the Saint Ambrose University Fighting Bees (14-9, 7-9 CCAC) by a final score of 83-80.

The IU South Bend offense starting the game hot, jumping out to a 9-2 lead four minutes into the game before the Fighting Bees answered, pulling within two points at 11-9.

The Titans again caught fire more than halfway through the first half, this time taking a lead of 31-22.

Still Saint Ambrose rallied, closing the first half on a 16-9 run to shorten the IUSB lead to just two points at 40-38.

Saturday's second half continued to be neck and neck through the finish. The Titans jumped out to as much as a 12 lead in the period but the Fighting Bees did not quit, bringing the score to within one point at 81-80 with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Two clutch free throws by Jylen Petty and a timely Saint Ambrose turnover put the game on ice as IU South Bend went on to defeat Saint Ambrose by a final score of 83-80.

Four different Titans scored in double figures on Saturday, led by senior forward Jylen Petty who finished with 19 points.

Petty's 19 points came on four made triples while also scoring the last four IUSB points from the free throw line to secure the victory for the Titans.

The next Titan to score in double figures was freshman Collin Schmidt who finished with 15 points.

Schmidt's 15 points were the second most he scored in his collegiate career, doing so by shooting just under 50% from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.

The other two IU South Bend Titans to score in double figures were Mark White who finished with 11 points and Nick Mullen who finished with 10 points.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, February 12th, when they host the Saint Xavier University Cougars at 7:30 PM ET in the Student Activities Center
