Wildcats Tame Titans

QUINCY, Ill. - The Indiana University South Bend Baseball Team (4-10, 0-0 CCAC) was only able to manage one win against Culver Stockton College (6-6, 0-0 Conf.) in a four game series this past weekend losing an extra inning affair 9-8 game one, winning 7-5 game two, losing games three and four by scores of 9-8 and 8-5.

Game 1 (L 9-8)
The Titans got out to an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on 2 RBI double from Kaleb Farnham. The Titan offense was able to extend their lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to RBI singles from Braedon Leathed and Jack Ryan. The Wildcats of Culver Stockton College finally got their offense going in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead 5-4. The Titans responded immediately with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead 6-5. CS-C added one run in the bottom half of the inning to tie things back up at 6-6. The Wildcats took the lead 7-6 with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but once again the Titans responded with two more runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead 8-7 heading into the final half inning of regulation. CS-C tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning and a scoreless top of the ninth from IUSB, the Wildcats were down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth when they got an RBI single to take game one of the series 9-8. Josiah Nelson and Kaleb Farnham each had 2 RBI's for the Titans. Josh Vis took the loss giving up 2 runs in his 2.2 innings of work at the end of the game.

Game 2 (W 7-5)
Culver Stockton College had an early 5-1 lead after three innings of play, but from there Riley Thomas was solid on the mound in relief going 5.0 innings only allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while striking out 7. The Titans scored three runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth to cement their come from behind victory. Gabe Cortez was 2-2 with 2 Home Runs on the game, while Jack Ryan and Kaleb Farnham were each 2-4 at the plate. Farnham had 2 RBI's and Ryan had 1.

Game 3 (L 9-8)
The Titans looked to continue the success they had in game two, but a few big innings from CS-C came around to bite them in the end. The Wildcats scored four runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning, and two runs in the sixth inning. The Titan offense had a big inning of their own, scoring six runs in the sixth inning which actually gave them an 8-7 lead at the time, but the two runs CS-C scored in the bottom of the sixth propelled them to victory. Kaleb Farnham led the Titan offense going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI's. Andrew Parker picked up the loss throwing 3.0 innings giving up 5 runs, 5 earned, on 7 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Game 4 (L 8-5)
Game four saw CS-C get a hold of the game early and never look back. The Wildcats had a one run lead through two innings of play, but a three run third inning and three run fourth innings gave them an 8-1 advantage heading into the final three innings of the game. The Titans scratched across two runs in the sixth inning to bring the game within five, and threatened again in the seventh inning putting up two runs to bring the game within three, but failed to extend the game losing the final game of the series 8-5. Joe Jefferson and Quinn Meier each had a home run for the Titans, while Braedon Leathed went 3-4 with 2 RBI's. Alex Marshall suffered the loss throwing 1.0 inning giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 2.
