PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Indiana University South Bend Baseball (15-25, 11-13 CCAC) team dropped both games on day two of the four-game weekend series against Trinity Christian College (12-24, 8-16 CCAC) losing game one 3-0 and falling late in game two 6-3.
Game 1 (L 3-0)
The Titans hit the road to Palos Heights, Ill. to conclude their weekend series with TCC looking to pick up where they left off on day one. TCC got on the board early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, one of which came across on a Titan defensive error. TCC would add another run in the bottom of the third inning on an infield single to take a 3-0 lead through three innings. Both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the game as the Titan offense was shutout for the first time this season. Game one was all
Gabe Cortez for the Titans as he led the offense with two of their three hits with the other coming from
Lucas Brown. Cortez also got the start on the mound throwing six innings giving up just three runs, two earned, on three hits and two strikeouts suffering the loss in his quality start.
Game 2 (L 6-3)
Game two was another pitchers duel as all the runs in the game were scored in just two innings. The Titans got the lead early scoring three runs in the top of the second inning on a
Nick Turner two RBI single to left field, and scored another run on a stolen base from
Lucas Brown that allowed
Michael Szatkowski to score from third.
Riley Thomas was masterful on the mound through the first six innings only allowing one hit until the seventh inning when TCC scored six runs on four hits and one big Titan error that extended the inning for the Trolls. Thomas picked up the loss with his final line being 6.2 innings giving up six runs, two earned, on just three hits and five strikeouts.
Adam Amodei relieved Thomas throwing 0.1 innings giving up two hits allowing two inherited runners to score.
Jack Kienzle threw a scoreless inning allowing one hit and striking out two. The Titan offense was only able to get one base runner in their final two at bats that gave way to a TCC doubleheader sweep and a split of the four game series.
Gabe Cortez led the offense once again going two-for-four with a run scored, while
Nick Turner led the team with his two RBI's.
The Titans move to seventh place in the CCAC with just two weeks left in the regular season as the top six teams make the CCAC tournament. Baseball will be back in action Tuesday April 15th on the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Grace College (14-24, 7-20 Conf.) where first pitch is scheduled for 1pm ET.
