BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Indiana University South Bend (13-25, 7-7 CCAC) softball team split their conference doubleheader with Olivet Nazarene University (21-13, 7-5 CCAC) losing game one 10-2 in five innings and scoring five runs in the last two innings to win game two 5-2.
Game 1 (L 10-2)
The Titans weren't able to get much going early in the game while ONU pushed five runs across in the second inning to get out to an early 5-0 lead. IUSB scored a run in the top of the third inning on an
Abigail Yarnell RBI double, but Olivet responded immediately with three runs of their own to extend their lead to 8-1. Another run from ONU in the fourth inning put the game at 9-1 and the game being three outs away from a mercy, but the Titans scored a run on an
Elyse Starr home run to extend the game. ONU scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning to walk away with a game one 10-2 victory via the mercy rule.
Savannah Hamilton picked up the loss in the circle throwing four innings giving up 10 runs on 16 hits and three strikeouts.
Game 2 (W 5-2)
Game two was a battle of the pitchers as it was close game until the Titan offense exploded late in the game. ONU got on the board first scoring a run in the second inning and a run in the third inning to get out to a 2-0 lead. Both teams traded scoreless innings until the top of the sixth inning when the Titans took the lead scoring four runs on a
Leah Dawson RBI walk, a
Savannah Hamilton RBI single, and a
Summer Johnson two RBI double. The Titans added another run to extend their lead to 5-2 in the seventh inning on an
Abigail Yarnell RBI bunt single.
Abigail Yarnell was dominant in the circle for the Titans throwing seven innings giving up just two runs, one earned, on eights and no strikeouts.
The Softball team moves to 7-7 in conference play, good for fifth place with just two conference games remaining. The Titans return to action next week on Saturday April 26th when they travel to St. Ambrose University (21-17, 7-5 CCAC) for their final CCAC doubleheader of the season.
