Softball Drops Both to Saint Xavier

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Indiana University South Bend Softball Team (8-22, 2-4 CCAC) dropped both games of their CCAC doubleheader with No. 19 in the country Saint Xavier University (21-6, 4-0 CCAC), losing game one 12-2 and game two 10-0.

Game One (L 12-2)
The Titans were the home team on the scoreboard despite playing on SXU's campus for the day due to field conditions in South Bend. The Cougars of SXU got their offense rolling early and kept the foot on the gas for the entirety of the game. SXU scored two runs in the second inning, one run in each the third and fourth inning to get out to a 4-0 lead with three innings of play left. The Titans were unable to get anything on the scoreboard through the first four innings and only mustered one hit to that point. SXU added on to their lead with two more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-0. A six run top of the seventh allowed the Cougars to pull away and have a 12-0 advantage going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Titans scratched two runs across in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Jordan Watts RBI walk and an Elyse Starr RBI sacrifice fly, but it was too little too late as SXU ended up taking game one 12-2. Savannah Hamilton took the loss in the circle throwing six innings giving up nine runs, nine earned, on 12 hits and three strikeouts.

Game Two (L 10-0)
SXU got out to a similar start as game one jumping out to an early lead scoring three runs in the second inning, two runs in the third inning, and two runs in the fourth inning to have an early 7-0 lead. The Titan offense wasn't able to get much going as they were held scoreless and were only able to get three hits in the first four innings. Both teams swapped scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth innings, but SXU added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Titans were held hitless after the fourth inning, bringing the game two final to 10-0 in favor of SXU. Abigail Yarnell and Aubrey Gearhart each had a double for the Titan offense. Jaylah Harlan suffered the loss for the Titans throwing lasting 3.1 innings giving up seven runs, seven earned, on 10 hits and no strikeouts.

The Titan Softball team returns to action Saturday April 5th against Judson University in Elgin, Ill. for another CCAC match up.
