A Scary Good Start Powers Titans Past Midway on Halloween

SOUTH BEND --- IU South Bend continued its strong start to the 2026-27 season on Saturday afternoon, using an explosive opening quarter and a decisive late-game surge to defeat Midway University, 89-63, at the Student Activities Center. The Titans (2-0) led wire-to-wire, overcoming a second-half push from the Eagles before pulling away for their second consecutive convincing victory.

Aubrie Booker set the tone early, pouring in 12 first-quarter points to ignite the Titans' offense. The junior guard connected on a pair of three-pointers and finished 5-of-7 from the floor in the opening frame, helping IUSB race out to a 16-2 advantage less than four minutes into the contest.

The Titans were firing on all cylinders, shooting 54.5 percent from the field and committing zero turnovers in the first quarter. Kenzie Fulks added six points and Keylee Hudson chipped in four as IU South Bend established a commanding 28-13 lead after 10 minutes.

The offensive momentum carried into the second quarter, where Bradie Chambers took charge. Chambers scored eight points in the period, connecting on all four of her field goal attempts to help extend the Titans' advantage to as many as 20 points. IUSB maintained its efficient shooting, converting at a 52.9 percent clip in the frame to take a comfortable 47-29 lead into halftime.

Midway came out of the break with renewed energy, however, threatening to turn the game around. The Eagles opened the second half on a 13-2 run, helping Midway trim an 18-point halftime deficit to just seven at 49-42 with seven minutes remaining in the third.

IU South Bend weathered the storm despite struggling offensively in the period. Booker delivered a timely three-pointer to help rebuild the cushion, while Fulks continued to attack the paint. The Titans managed just 15 points on 30.8 percent shooting in the third but maintained a 62-49 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Eagles continued to hang around in the fourth, eventually pulling within nine points at 68-59 with just over five minutes remaining. But the Titans had one final answer.

Fulks knocked down back-to-back jumpers to spark the decisive stretch before finding Chambers for a layup. Hudson followed with a steal and score, and Booker put the finishing touches on the surge with a three-pointer and layup on consecutive possessions. IU South Bend outscored Midway 19-4 over the final 4:52, putting the game well out of reach and sealing the 26-point victory.

Booker led the way with a game-high 22 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds while scoring in double figures for the second straight game to begin the season.

Fulks delivered another efficient performance with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Chambers followed with 16 points and seven boards, while Hudson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points and four rebounds.

Ashlee Schram provided a strong presence on the glass, grabbing six rebounds, including four on the offensive end, while contributing six points. Emma Reust added six points, five rebounds and two steals in another solid all-around effort.

The Titans finished shooting 50.7 percent from the field while holding Midway to just 37.9 percent, including a 20.0 percent mark from three-point range. IUSB dominated the interior, outscoring the Eagles 48-30 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 43-29. The Titans also capitalized on their opportunities, converting 13 Midway turnovers into 22 points while committing just seven turnovers of their own.

With another impressive team effort, IU South Bend moves to 2-0 on the young season, continuing to build momentum behind an efficient offense and strong play on both ends of the court.

The IUSB squad will now head to Huntington for its next contest, facing the Foresters on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
