Carson Shines as Titans Turn Attention to CCAC Tournament

GARY, Ind. --- With its postseason position already secured, IU South Bend closed out the regular season Thursday night at IU Northwest before turning its attention toward the CCAC Tournament.

The Titans fell in straight sets, 20-25, 15-25, 22-25, finishing the regular season at 14-18 overall and 10-8 in conference play. IUSB had already locked up the No. 4 seed in the CCAC Tournament, guaranteeing the Titans a home match when postseason play begins Tuesday.

While the result did not impact IUSB's place in the standings, Alyssa Carson provided a major bright spot with one of the most efficient performances of her season.

Carson crushed a team-high 17 kills on just 28 attacks, committing only two errors for a .536 hitting percentage. Her 17 kills matched her career best for a three-set match and accounted for more than half of the Titans' 32 kills on the night.

The sophomore was productive from the opening set, landing seven kills as IUSB stayed within striking distance of the RedHawks. She continued to provide the primary offensive spark throughout the match and reached double-digit kills for another strong showing heading into postseason play.

Brynn Lake directed the offense with 19 assists, while also adding two kills on five attacks, four digs and a service ace. Emalee Maesch finished with five kills and a team-high 13 digs, while adding two aces.

The Titans put together their strongest push in the third set. After trailing 15-12, IUSB battled back and eventually moved ahead 19-16 behind a run that included kills from Carson, Georgi Patten and Mia Norris, along with a Kadence Brumitt service ace.

IU Northwest responded late, but IUSB remained within one at 22-21 before the RedHawks closed out the match.

With the regular season now complete, the focus shifts fully to the CCAC Tournament. The fourth-seeded Titans will host an opening-round match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. inside the Student Activities Center against the winner of Thursday night's matchup between Saint Xavier and Governors State.

The next time IU South Bend takes the floor, the postseason begins.
