When it Mattered Most: Hornbeak Delivered

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- CJ Hornbeak did not shy away from the big moment on Wednesday night, drilling a go-ahead three-pointer with 48 seconds remaining to lift IU South Bend to an 87-83 road victory over Holy Cross at McKenna Arena.

After a sluggish first half that saw the Titans shoot just 31.3 percent and fall behind 41-33 at the break, IU South Bend battled back in the second. The two teams traded baskets throughout the final 20 minutes, with 11 lead changes and eight ties in a tightly contested affair.

The decisive moment came in the closing minute. Trailing 81-80, Andrew Hedgepeth attacked the lane and kicked the ball out to Hornbeak on the perimeter. Despite entering the possession just 2-for-13 from the field and 0-for-6 from three, Hornbeak rose and buried the go-ahead triple to give the Titans an 83-81 advantage.

Holy Cross had chances, but IU South Bend sealed the game at the free-throw line for the 87-83 final.

The Titans went 31-for-42 from the stripe, repeatedly converting in pressure moments down the stretch. Hornbeak finished 8-for-12 at the line, while Kyle Olagbegi went 10-for-12 and added a game-high 25 points, including 21 in the second half.

Olagbegi anchored the offense all night, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and controlling the interior. Hornbeak finished with 15 points, 12 of them coming in the second half. Mark White added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Collin Schmidt chipped in 11 points.

IU South Bend shot 51.6 percent in the second half and outscored Holy Cross 54-42 after halftime to complete the comeback.

IUSB will continue its roadstand this weekend, heading to Viterbo on Saturday for a 3:00 pm tipoff.
