Game Recap: Baseball |

Titans Earn Series Win with Valentine’s Day Comeback at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. --- Indiana University South Bend baseball closed out its weekend in dramatic fashion Saturday, splitting a Valentine's Day doubleheader at Brewton-Parker College to secure the four-game series victory. After a tough loss in game one, the Titans responded with a gritty 7-6 comeback win in the finale to head home on a high note.

IU South Bend moved to 3-4 on the season.

Game One: Barons' Big Inning Spoils Early Momentum

The Titans struck first in the opener and built a lead.

Senior Josiah Nelson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third before junior catcher Luis Turmero launched a two-run homer to give IU South Bend a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Nelson added a two-RBI single to extend the advantage to 5-0.

But Brewton-Parker answered with a decisive fourth inning, erupting for eight runs to flip the game. The Barons added four more in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull away for a 15-6 win.

Senior Nick Turner homered in the sixth for IU South Bend's final run of the game, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

Game Two: Titans Rally Late to Seal Series

The nightcap told a different story.

IU South Bend jumped out early once again. Senior Jayden Cummings doubled and scored in the first inning, and Nick Turner blasted a solo home run in the second to make it 2-0.

The Titans appeared in control after a four-run fourth inning. Junior Clint Goodman delivered an RBI double, and senior Lucas Brown added a two-run single as IU South Bend surged ahead 6-0.

Brewton-Parker battled back, scoring five runs in the fourth and eventually tying the game 6-6 in the sixth.

With the game knotted in the seventh, the Titans manufactured the decisive run. Lucas Brown singled to open the inning and sophomore Carson Mashack entered as a pinch runner. Mashack stole second and later scored when Jayden Cummings reached on a throwing error, giving IU South Bend a 7-6 lead.

The Titans turned to their bullpen to close it out. Junior Josh Vis earned the win in relief, and senior Max Lines shut the door with a scoreless seventh inning to secure the save and the series-clinching victory.
