Cold Shooting Night Halts Titans

GARY, Ind. --- IU South Bend couldn't overcome a cold night from beyond the arc Wednesday evening, falling 84-74 to IU Northwest at the Savannah Center.

The Titans (18-9, 13-6 CCAC) controlled much of the opening half, leading for more than 13 minutes and building a nine-point advantage midway through the period. Kyle Olagbegi powered the early surge with interior finishes and strong work on the glass, helping IU South Bend establish a 28-21 lead.

But the momentum shifted late in the half. Indiana Northwest closed the final stretch on a 21-8 run, flipping a five-point deficit into a 42-36 halftime lead. The RedHawks shot over 53 percent in the first half and carried that rhythm into the second.

IU Northwest stretched the margin to double digits by the midpoint of the second half, capitalizing on outside shooting. The RedHawks finished 12-of-27 (44.4 percent) from three-point range, while the Titans struggled from deep at just 4-of-22 (18.2 percent).

Still, IU South Bend had one last surge.

Trailing 71-59, the Titans erupted for a 10-0 run in just over a minute of game time. Olagbegi sparked the rally with an and-one finish. AJ Dunn followed with a clutch three-pointer, and Olagbegi capped the burst with a putback layup to trim the deficit to 71-69 with just under five minutes remaining.

IU Northwest answered immediately. The RedHawks knocked down back-to-back jumpers and regained control, pushing the lead back to multiple possessions before sealing the game.

Olagbegi led the Titans with a 20 point double-double. He finished the midweek game with 20 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Ethan Hill reached double figures in points, as well, at 10. James Stevenson chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, and Dunn finished with seven points off the bench. IU South Bend outscored the RedHawks 44-26 in the paint, but the perimeter shooting disparity proved decisive.

The regular season finale for the Titans will be on Saturday at St. Francis at 4:00 pm ET.
