Game Recap: Baseball |

Weekend Wraps with 13 Runs

JASPER, Ind. --- The offense was chugging along in the series finale on Saturday, as IU South Bend split the weekend with the Grace Lancers. Down in Jasper, Indiana, Grace took game one on Saturday but the Titans responded in game two to get a victory on the day.

Game One: Grace Rallies Late to Take Opener

The Titans struck first in the bottom of the first when Luis Turmero reached on an error, allowing Carson Mashack to score. IU South Bend added runs in the second and fourth, including an RBI single from Nick Turner and a steal of home by Evan Fortson, building a 4-3 advantage midway through the contest.

Turmero delivered again in the seventh with a solo home run to center field, knotting the game at five with two innings to go. But Grace answered in the ninth with three runs to secure an 8-5 win.

The Titans finished with seven hits in the opener, while Grace totaled 16 in the contest.

Game Two: Titans' Offense Explodes in 13-8 Win

Game two began with steady offense from both teams. The two squads were able to manufacture runs leading to a tie at three through three innings.

IU South Bend seized momentum in the fourth inning with a seven-run outburst. RBI knocks from Josiah Nelson, Luis Turmero, and Nick Turner put the Titans in front before junior first baseman Clint Goodman delivered the decisive swing — a two-run home run to center field that capped the rally and gave IU South Bend a commanding lead.

Goodman was dominant at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs and the home run.

The Titans weren't done. IU South Bend added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by RBI singles from Mashack and John Morgan, pushing the lead to 13-8.

The offense piled up 13 runs on 13 hits in the victory, with Turmero and Goodman collecting three hits and two RBIs, and Nelson driving in a pair as well.

On the mound, Noah Dowler earned the win after throwing four innings as the game's starter, while the bullpen combination of Lucky Teerman, Max Lines, and Josh Vis closed out the final frames.

The Titans were all over the base path, collecting nine steals as a team. Jayden Cummings was the leader in the clubhouse with four swipes in game two.

IUSB is set to wrap up non-conference play next week, battling Madonna in a four game series beginning on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
