Titans Open Season in Florida

LAKE WALES, Fla. --- The IU South Bend baseball team opened the 2026 season Saturday with a doubleheader against RV Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Florida, gaining valuable early-season experience against a nationally competitive opponent.

Despite falling in both contests, the Titans showed flashes of promise at the plate as they kicked off the campaign under sunny Florida skies.

Game One – Abraham Baldwin 17, IU South Bend 2

Abraham Baldwin wasted little time in the opener, jumping out to an early lead with eight runs in the first inning and building separation throughout the game.

IU South Bend answered in the bottom of the third inning with its most productive offensive frame of the day. Lenox Estremera worked a walk before moving into scoring position, and Lucas Brown followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Luis Turmero delivered the Titans' first run of the season with an RBI double, and Josiah Nelson followed with an RBI single to bring home another run.

Brown finished the game with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while Turmero and Nelson each drove in a run.

Game Two – Abraham Baldwin 15, IU South Bend 1

The second game of the day proved challenging early, as Abraham Baldwin used a 12-run second inning to take control.

IU South Bend continued to compete offensively, putting runners on base throughout the contest, and found the scoreboard in the third inning. Jayden Cummings supplied the highlight, blasting a solo home run to left field for his first long ball of the season.

On the mound, Max Shultz turned in a strong relief effort, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing no hits to help close out the game.
