Douglass Delivers as Titans Storm Back at Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS --- For the second time in as many weeks, IU South Bend walked into the seventh inning trailing — and walked out with a grand slam.

This time it was Reece Douglass.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh, Douglass turned on a 2-1 pitch and drove it to center field, flipping a two-run deficit into a 6-4 victory over Trinity Christian.

IU South Bend struck first in the second inning when Ella Chelminiak reached on an error, allowing Jaylah Harlan and Douglass to score for a 2-0 lead.

Trinity Christian responded with single runs in the third and a three-run fourth to take a 4-2 advantage.

Savannah Hamilton worked through five innings in the circle, allowing just one earned run despite traffic on the bases. Elyse Starr entered in relief and tossed two shutout innings to keep the Titans within striking distance and ultimately earn the win.

After a lightning delay in the sixth halted things temporarily, IU South Bend entered the seventh still trailing 4-2.

Pailei Cripe drew a walk. Hamilton singled. Grace Swangin worked another free pass to load the bases with two outs.

On a 2-1 count, Douglass delivered.

Her grand slam to center cleared the bases and gave the Titans a 6-4 lead in one swing. Starr retired the side in order in the bottom half to seal the comeback.

Douglass finished with four RBIs on the day, while Cripe and Hamilton each reached base twice in the win.

The Titans repeated their incredible feat - Trailing late. Bases loaded. Two outs. Last week it was Peyton Norman. This week it was Reece Douglass.

IU South Bend will now host a doubleheader against Trinity Christian on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 pm.
