Game Recap: Softball |

Narrow Margins in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, Wis. --- Indiana University South Bend softball battled in two close games Saturday but came up just short in both, falling 1-0 in the opener and 6-3 in game two at Viterbo.

Both contests were decided by narrow margins, with the Titans generating opportunities but unable to find the key swing late.

Game One: Viterbo 1, IU South Bend 0

The opener was defined by pitching.

Savannah Hamilton delivered a strong complete-game effort, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out six. The lone run came on a solo home run in the second inning.

Offensively, the Titans scattered six hits and drew five walks but were unable to break through against Viterbo. Reece Douglass collected two hits, including a double, and IU South Bend put runners aboard in all but two innings.

The best opportunity came in the fourth when the Titans loaded the bases with one out, but Viterbo worked out of the jam to preserve the shutout.

Game Two: Viterbo 6, IU South Bend 3

Game two followed a similar pattern of back-and-forth moments before Viterbo pulled ahead late.

After falling behind 2-0 on a fourth-inning home run, the Titans answered in the fifth. Reece Douglass delivered an RBI single, and Cassi Reames later worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2.

The two teams traded runs between the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth to keep the game all square at three.

Viterbo responded with the key rally in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs and capitalizing on stolen bases and timely hits to regain control at 6-3.

The Titans finished with 11 hits, including multi-hit efforts from Jaylah Harlan, and Peyton Norman, but left 13 runners on base.

Indiana South Bend will wrap up the regular season Sunday with a final matchup at Viterbo at 1:00 pm ET.
