Titans Fall in Extras to Judson; Season Comes to a Close

JOLIET, Ill. --- IU South Bend's season came to a heartbreaking end Thursday evening as the Titans fell to Judson in extra innings in the CCAC Tournament elimination bracket.

The Titans carried the lead from the opening inning into the ninth, but the Eagles rallied late and pulled away in the 10th to bring IU South Bend's 2026 campaign to a close.

Senior right-hander Josh McCormick delivered a tremendous performance in what proved to be his final start in a Titan uniform.

McCormick worked 8.0 strong innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out multiple batters and keeping Judson's offense quiet for much of the afternoon. He opened the game with six scoreless frames and strung together eight consecutive outs from the middle of the fourth inning through the sixth, settling into a dominant rhythm when the Titans needed it most.

Judson finally broke through in the seventh. A leadoff double set the stage, and the Eagles manufactured two runs with a pair of sacrifice hits to get on the board.

Still, McCormick handed the ball off having kept IU South Bend in control deep into the contest.

The Titans opened the game with runs in the first and second frames. Jayden Cummings scored before the end of the second at bat in the first inning, reaching on a single, before moving to second and third on an error and touching home on a wild pitch.

The second inning saw a bases loaded opportunity for IUSB after a Jack Barnes single and two walks. Sam Garner logged one RBI with a sacrifice fly, before Cummings brought home another run with his second hit in as many innings.

Entering the ninth, the Titans still maintained a 3-1 lead but Judson was not out of it yet. A double and single kicked off the frame and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. A double play followed but the runner on third made the trip home to knot the game at three and force extras.

In the 10th, Judson capitalized on a fielding error and later drew a bases-loaded walk to take the lead. A sharp double play that included a strong throw to the plate erased another potential run and briefly stopped the Eagles' momentum, keeping IU South Bend within striking distance.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the 10th, IU South Bend sparked a rally with back-to-back singles, placing the tying run on second and the winning run on first. With the season hanging in the balance, the Titans battled at the plate, but a strikeout ended the threat and sealed the outcome.

IU South Bend finished the season with 21 wins and a CCAC Tournament appearance. From walk-off victories to dominant pitching performances, the Titans showed fight all year.
