Titans Take on No. 25 IU Kokomo

SOUTH BEND --- For much of Thursday night, IU South Bend refused to let No. 25 IU Kokomo get comfortable.

The Titans stayed within striking distance of their nationally-ranked in-state opponent through the first two sets, including a first frame that remained tied as late as 20-20. The Cougars eventually created enough separation down the stretch to leave the Student Activities Center with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 sweep.

IU South Bend battled evenly with IU Kokomo throughout much of the opener and worked back from an early deficit to tie the set multiple times, including at 20-20. The Cougars closed the frame with five straight points before taking another competitive second set, 25-21. IUSB also grabbed an early advantage in the third before IU Kokomo pulled away late to complete the sweep.

Despite the result, Kadence Brumitt continued to fill the stat sheet for the Titans. The junior led IU South Bend with 11 kills on 26 attacks, committing only three errors for a .308 hitting percentage. She was just as active defensively, collecting a match-high 17 digs while adding an ace. Thursday marked Brumitt's third consecutive match with double-digit kills and her third straight double-double with kills and digs.

Alyssa Carson created much of IUSB's pressure from the service line, finishing with six of the Titans' seven aces. She also recorded five kills, nine digs and three block assists to finish with a team-high 12.5 points. Emalee Maesch added eight kills and nine digs.

Mia Norris distributed 15 assists and added four digs, while Brynn Lake finished with 10 assists. IUSB totaled 50 digs as a team and eight block assists against an IU Kokomo attack that finished the evening hitting .255.

The Titans will quickly turn their attention back to CCAC play, remaining at home to host Judson on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. inside the Student Activities Center.
