JOLIET, Ill. – IU South Bend struggled to find their shot throughout the game on Wednesday night, as the Titans opened conference play with a road loss to St. Francis, 68-55.
The Titans (3-1, 0-1 CCAC) went 16-for-59 from the floor (27.1%), their lowest shooting percentage since 2019. Sara Doi and Katie Gard each finished with 14 points, while Maddie Gard recorded the team's first double-double of the year, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Doi opened the game with a three-pointer, giving the Titans what would end up as their largest lead of the night. The lead would change hands five times throughout the first quarter, but the period would end in a 16-16 score following a three-pointer and a later trip to the free throw line for Courtney Haynes.
The Saints would hold a small advantage throughout the second quarter, going up by as much as seven, 32-25 at the 2:43 mark. Doi would lead the Titans with eight first-half points, as IUSB trailed 34-27 at the break.
With nine straight points to open the second half, St. Francis built a 16-point advantage midway through the third quarter, 43-27. Three-pointers from Doi and Katie Gard along with a Haynes layup trimmed the margin down to eight, 43-35 by the 3:42 mark. The Titans were unable to get any closer however, with the home team managing a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter.
The Titans step outside of CCAC action this weekend, when they travel south for a matchup with Midway (Ky.) Tipoff from Midway, Ky. on Saturday, November 6 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
