GRANGER, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend baseball team split a twin bill against Trinity International in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference midweek action Tuesday, March 23, at Rex Weade Stadium. After dropping the series opener by a score of 9-8, the Titans topped the Trojans in game two by a tally of 7-1.

Game One: TIU 9, IUSB 8
IU South Bend cranked out seven hits in game one, to go along with three walks. Junior transfer
Scott Stetz notched a team-high three hits, while
Logan Smith,
Jordan Moore,
Nolan Unger and
Colin Mack tallied one knock apiece. Stetz picked up a game-high four RBIs in the loss. Smith and Mack each drove one in.
Nolan Lorenz ate up 1.1 innings in relief, allowing two crucial runs in the top of the seventh to suffer his first loss of the season. Freshman
Matt Lood started and threw 2.2 innings that saw six runs off five hits.
Jaidyn Morris and
Jordan Moore both came in for relief during game one.
Trinity International broke the game open with six runs in the third to take control, 6-0. The Titans garnered runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to pull within three.
In the bottom of the sixth, a pair of singles, hit batters and a sacrifice fly evened the score, 6-6, through six total frames.
TIU got three back in the seventh and held IU South Bend to just two in the final half inning to seal its first conference victory.
Game Two: IUSB 7, TIU 1
Junior
Kage Haeck earned the win on the mound. He tossed six innings, allowing six hits and striking out a career-high six. Senior counterpart Zack Dehn threw 1.2 crucial innings in relief, allowing just one hit with two strike outs.

Kyle Hallberg forced a pop up to the second baseman,
Logan Smith, to end the seventh inning before
Logan Young delivered a near flawless final inning that was highlighted by two strike outs.
Offensively, IUSB's seven runs came on 10 hits and seven walks. Senior
TJ DeHerrera led the way with a 2-for-2 effort, including with two home runs, two walks and three RBIs. The Bolingbrook, Ill. native now has eight bombs this season after his two on Tuesday.
Smith and Unger each went 2-for-4 with Smith driving in one run. Third baseman
Jake Vanderwoude went 1-for-3 in game two with two RBIs.
After Trinity International pushed one across in the first, the Titans sprung for three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the frame. Smith got things started with a single, and crossed home place on DeHerrera's home run to right field. Stetz continued the hit parade with a single before Unger capped the inning with a run-scoring single through the left side.
IUSB doubled its run total in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 6-1 lead. Two hits and one error led to three runs scored, highlighted by Vanderwoude's single through the left side that drove home Lorenz and
Tyler Welborn.
DeHerrera's second home run of the day went to left field as the left hander added the final run of the game in the seventh to close out IU South Bend's third CCAC victory this season.
The series finale match is set for Tuesday, April 20, in Deerfield, Ill. The winner-takes-all game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET.
