Gard's double-double leads Titans past Trinity International

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Katie Gard recorded her first career double-double on Saturday afternoon, as IU South Bend earned a 61-38 home victory over Trinity International at the Student Activities Center.

The junior collected a team-high 16 points to go along with a career-best 11 rebounds, leading the Titans (21-6, 14-5 CCAC) to their sixth win in a row. Maddie Gard tallied 15 points and nine boards on the day, going 7-for-14 from the floor.

The Titans would lead by as much as 11 in the first quarter, on Sara Doi's jumper at the 1:50 mark, but the Trojans () rallied with the final six points of the period, cutting the IUSB lead down to 16-11. The visitors continued to narrow the gap in the second quarter, opening on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the day, 19-16 with 6:31 left in the first half.

A layup from Courtney Haynes followed by a three from Katie Gard put IUSB back on top, as the Titans closed the first half with six straight points to claim a 27-21 advantage at the break.

IUSB continued to pull away in the third quarter, with a three from Rachael Robards late in the period pushing the lead to 14 points, 43-29 with 1:05 left. Another trey from Robards to start the fourth quarter began an 11-2 run that secured the win, as Trinity International were held to just five points in the final period.

The Titans now prepare for two more road games before returning to the Student Activities Center for Senior Day on next Saturday, February 19. IUSB first takes on Governors State on Monday night, February 14 from University Park, Ill. Tipoff with the Jaguars is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
