WHITING, Ind. – Holding their opponents under 30 points for the first time since 2018, IU South Bend cruised to a 67-28 road win at Calumet on Wednesday night.
Katie Gard led the way for the Titans (20-6, 13-5 CCAC) with 16 points, with a pair of threes and a 5-for-10 night from the floor. Maddy Schumacher scored a season-high 15 points off the bench, on 6-of-8 shooting, and Sara Doi picked up 10 points with three assists and three steals.
After the Crimson Wave (0-20, 0-19 CCAC) scored the opening bucket, a three-pointer from Doi started a run of 16 straight points for IUSB, with Schumacher's three at the 2:17 mark of the first quarter giving the Titans a 17-3 advantage.
The Titans would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way, taking a 35-16 lead into the halftime break. Gard collected 13 of her 16 points before the break to lead the Titans.
The visitors continued to pull away in the second half, as IUSB kept Calumet to single digits on the scoreboard in all four quarters. The Titan defense held the Crimson Wave to 17.2% shooting (11-64), a season low for any IUSB opponent.
The win is the fifth in a row for IU South Bend, and the 18th in a row over Calumet.
The Titans return to the Student Activities Center this weekend, when they host Trinity International. Tipoff with the Trojans is set for Saturday, February 12, at 1:00 p.m.
