SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (4-0, 0-0 CCAC) defeated the Siena Heights University Saints (0-1, 0-0 WHAC) by a final score of 75-67. Monday's win gives the Titans back to back season winning their first four games as they look to match last year's mark of 10 consecutive victories to begin the season.
The lowest scoring contest so far this year for IUSB saw the Titans put up 16 points in both first half quarters while holding the Saints to just nine first quarter points and 10 second quarter points in the first 20 minutes of action.
Tenleigh Phelps led all players with seven points in both the first and second quarters to help IU South Bend take a 32-19 score heading into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the tightest of Monday's contest, as the Titans outscored Siena Heights 21-19 thanks in part to nine points from
Katie Gard.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Titans led by 15 before the Saints came storming back, outscoring the Titans 29-22 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Siena Heights brought the game to within two points at 55-53 before IU South Bend closed out the game on a 20-14 run, winning Monday's game by a final score of 75-67.
The IUSB offense featured three Titans to score in double digits, led by junior
Tenleigh Phelps who finished with 21 points.
Phelps' 21 points on Monday marks her third game this season in which she has recorded at least 20 points, extending her team lead in points per game to 21.3.
The next Titan to record double digits in the scoring column was
Katie Gard, finishing with 19 points.
Gard's 19 points came on just under 50% shooting from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line while tying for a team high in minutes with 34.
The last Titan to score double figures was guard
Jazmen Watts who finished with 13 points.
Watts' 13 points came on 40% shooting from the field and a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Watts also knocked in two three point field goals in Monday's 75-67 win, tying her for the team in three pointers made while also leading IUSB in three point field goal percentage.
A swarming Titans defense forced 29 Siena Heights turnovers, including 22 in the first half, that led to 20 points through four quarters.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, November 11th, when they travel to Dearborn, Mich., to take on the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn at 2:00 PM.
