Titans move into first place in CCAC with 67-55 victory over IU Northwest

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (24-2, 17-2 CCAC) defeated the Indiana University Northwest RedHawks (21-6, 16-3 CCAC) by a score of 67-55. Wednesday's victory improves the Titans CCAC record to 17-2 and moves them into sole possession of first place in conference with just one game remaining in the regular season.

Five points by both Katie Gard and Maddie Gard helped IU South Bend open up the game on a 13-0 run through seven minutes of play. Multiple three point field goals in the first quarter by Rachael Robards helped the Titans build a 23-12 lead through the end of one quarter of play.

Outscored by four points in the second quarter, IU South Bend still took a 35-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Seven third quarter points from the game's leading scorer Jazmen Watts extended the Titans lead to 14 points heading into the fourth quarter.

One last surge for the RedHawks cut the IU South Bend lead to 10 points before a Sara Doi jump shot halted the IU Northwest run and ultimately put the game on ice for the Titans as they went on to win by a final score of 67-55.

Jazmen Watts led IU South Bend in scoring in what was her best game of the year, tallying season highs in points with 16, steals with three, and minutes played with 24.

Held to single digits in her last four games, Maddie Gard got back on track, scoring 15 points on better than 50% shooting from the field. 15 points on Wednesday for Gard marked the eighth time this season in which she has scored at least 15 points and the twenty first time in which she has tallied double digits.

The final Titan to reach double figures was Katie Gard, scoring 15 points on 6-15 shooting from the field. Gard's 13 points in Wednesday's win helps keep her scoring average at 13.6 points per game which leads all Titans.

Center Tia Chambers finished one point shy of double-double status finishing with nine points and a season high 17 rebounds. Chambers' 17 rebounds in Wednesday's victory sets a new season high for rebounds in a game in the CCAC.

Indiana University South Bend returns to action in their last regular season contest of the year, when they travel to Davenport, IA., looking to defeat Saint Ambrose University and secure the first regular season conference championship in IU South Bend history.
