JOLIET, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (13-21, 9-8 CCAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to the University of Saint Francis Fighting Saints by scores of 4-3 and 10-9.
Game 1
Scoreless through two innings of play, Saint Francis got on the board with three runs in the third inning via RBI single and a two run homerun by right fielder Eric Maffie.
IU South Bend and Saint Francis traded runs in the third inning, with the Titans run coming on a fielder's choice by
Brenden Bell.
Trailing 4-1 headed into the fifth, the Titans plated another run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by
Logan Smith that scored
Josiah Nelson.
A seventh inning RBI single by first baseman
Hunter Bedell brought the Titans within one before the rally fell short as the IU South Bend Titans fell to Saint Francis in game one by a score of 4-3.
Game 2
A three run Saint Francis homerun started the scoring in game two, giving the Saints a 3-0 lead through three innings of play.Â
A fifth inning groundout by
Josiah Nelson scored the first Titan run in the fifth before a six run sixth inning gave IU South Bend a 7-3 leaded headed into the bottom of the sixth.
The six run Titan sixth inning got started with an RBI fielder's choice by
Kaleb Farnham.
Right fielder
Kole Miller drove in both
Brenden Bell and
Kaleb Farnham to give the Titans a 4-3 lead.Â
Donnie Necas then tripled down the right field line to clear the bases and give IU South Bend a 7-3 lead.Â
The Fighting Saints answered back with three of their own in the bottom of the sixth to cut their deficit to 7-6.
Saint Francis then took the lead with four runs in the seventh, thanks in large to Eric Maffie's third homerun of the day.
A sacrifice fly by
Hunter Bedell and an RBI single by
Josiah Nelson brought IU South Bend within one run, trailing 10-9 headed into the ninth.Â
The Titans went scoreless in the ninth and ultimately fell in game two by a score of 10-9.Â
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, April 14th, when they travel to Whiting, Indiana, for a single nine inning game against the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of Saint Joseph.
