BOURBONNAIS, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (19-22, 13-9 CCAC) split a doubleheader against the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers (24-19, 14-8 CCAC), losing game one 10-3 before winning game two 14-3.
Game 1
The Olivet Nazarene Tigers started the scoring in game one, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
IU South Bend answered back in the bottom of the first when catcher
Drew Barber led off the inning with a solo homerun to center field.
After a
Logan Smith walk, designated hitter
Kaleb Farnham doubled to right field, scoring Smith and cutting the Titans deficit to 3-2.
Left fielder
Josiah Nelson tied game one with an RBI triple that plated
Hunter Bedell to even the contest at 3-3 through two innings of play.
The Tigers went on to score two runs in the third, four in the fifth, and one more in the sixth as they went on to win game one 10-3.
Game 2
Olivet Nazarene plated the first run in game two with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Brett Sikorski's second inning sacrifice fly scored
Kaleb Farnham to tie the game at 1-1.
IU South Bend took the lead in the top of the third when
Logan Smith's three run homerun gave the Titans a 4-1 lead.
RBI singles by
Brett Sikorski and
Donnie Necas, followed by a passed ball scored three more runs in the third, giving IU South Bend a 7-1 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Logan Smith left the yard for the second time in game two, extending the Titans lead to 8-1.
Brett Sikorski's RBI double plated another Titan in the fourth, pushing the lead to 9-1.
Logan Smith's sacrifice fly drove in his fifth run of game two, extending the IU South Bend lead to 10-1.
Olivet Nazarene pushed one run across in the bottom of the fifth to shorten their deficit to 10-2.
Kaleb Farnham homered to center field in the top of the sixth to put the Titans ahead by nine runs.
Olivet pushed across one more run in the bottom of the sixth before IU South Bend plated three more runs in the top of the seventh via RBI single by
Owen Benson and
Devin Smith and RBI groundout by
Brenden Bell.
The Tigers went scoreless in the bottom of the seventh as IU South Bend went on to win game two 14-3.
The Indiana University South Bend return to action on Saturday, April 22nd, when they conclude their series against the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers at 12:00 PM ET.
