BOURBONNAIS, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (20-22, 14-9 CCAC) defeated the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers (24-20, 14-9 CCAC) in game three of the three game series by a score of 15-5.
Senior
Payton Carney started on the mound in game three, pitching two innings while allowing four hits and giving up just one run.Â
Olivet Nazarene got their tally off of Carney via wild pitch in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.Â
The Titans got on the board in the top of the third inning when
Logan Smith scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.Â
Kaleb Farnham and
Kole Miller each drove in a run on RBI singles to give the Titans a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third.Â
The Tigers answered back with one run of their own in the third to cut their deficit to 3-2.Â
Left fielder
Josiah Nelson drove in two runs with a single in the sixth before a
Kaleb Farnham homerun to center field gave IU South Bend a 7-2 lead.Â
Right hander
Alex Babbitt gave up his only three runs of Sunday's contest in the seventh and eighth innings to cut the IU South lead to 7-5. Babbitt pitched four and a third innings striking out six Tigers in the process.Â
Jack Kienzle relieved Babbitt with one out in the eight, pitching one and two third innings of shutout baseball to earn the save in game three.Â
IU South Bend broke the game open in the top of the ninth, scoring eighth runs in the frame to put the Tigers away for good.Â
Kole Miller,
Logan Smith, and
Kaleb Farnham each had RBI singles in the ninth along with a
Devin Smith sacrifice fly and an Olivet Nazarene error which lead to the Titans 15-5 victory.Â
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Tuesday, April 25th when they host Saint Francis University in a single nine inning game at 3:00 PM at Rex Weade Stadium.
