SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (15-0, 7-0 CCAC) defeated the Saint Xavier University Cougars (7-7, 5-2 CCAC) by a final score of 73-66. Wednesday's victory marks 15 straight wins for the Titans and keeps them on top of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference as the only remaining unbeaten team.
Down by one early in the first quarter, IU South Bend went on an 11-2 run in the games opening quarter fueled by seven first quarter points by the games leading scorer
Maddie Gard.
A tenacious Titans defense allowed just eight points in the second quarter to take a 37-22 lead heading into halftime.
Outscored in both second half quarters, the 15 point halftime lead proved to be enough as IU South Bend would go on to win Wednesday's matchup of top three CCAC teams by a final score of 73-66.
The IUSB offense featured three scorers to record double figures, led by
Maddie Gard who finished with a game high 22 points.
Gard's 22 points came on nearly 50% shooting from the field while knocking down six of the eight free throws that she attempted. Gard also tallied six rebounds and four steals in her 35 minutes of playing time.
With 22 points in Wednesday's victory,
Maddie Gard moves into fifth place in scoring in the CCAC at better than 15 points per game.
The next Titan to record double figures in the scoring column was
Tenleigh Phelps who finished with 20 points.
Phelps' 20 points came via 11 for 12 shooting from the free throw line while also securing eight rebounds.
At better than 20 points per game, Phelps still leads the CCAC in scoring per game.
The last Titan to score in double figures was fifth year guard
Katie Gard who finished with 15 points.
At better than 16 points per game and better than 44% shooting from the three point line, Gard finds herself in the top five in both categories in the CCAC.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Saturday, January 13th when they travel to Davenport, Iowa, to take on the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University at 2:00 PM ET.
