PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (20-0, 12-0 CCAC) defeated the Trinity Christian College Trolls (2-15, 2-9 CCAC) by a final score of 91-42.
Saturday's one-sided win over the Trolls extends the program record winning streak to 20 straight games and keeps IU South Bend in first place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, two games ahead of second place Governors State.
Domination from the start of Saturday's CCAC affair, IUSB jumped out to a 38-8 lead through one quarter thanks to double digit scoring by
Katie Gard and
Maddie Gard in the games first ten minutes.
The second quarter proved more of the same for the Titans as they outscored Trinity Christian 23-9 to take a 61-17 lead headed into halftime.
Outscoring the Trolls by five in Saturday's second half, Indiana University South Bend went on to defeat Trinity Christian by a final score of 91-42.
A balanced IU South Bend offense featured four of the five starters scoring in double figures, led by
Katie Gard who finished with a game high 21 points.
Gard's 21 points came 50% shooting from the field while also knocking down three field goals from beyond the three point line while playing in a team high 30 minutes. At nearly 16 points per game, Gard remains in the top five in scoring in the CCAC while placing third in conference in three point field goal percentage.
The next Titan to score in double figures was
Tenleigh Phelps who finished with 17 points in just 22 minutes of action.
Phelps' 17 points came on just one missed field goal (5-6) while knocking down all seven free throws that she attempted.
At better than 62% shooting from the field on the season, Phelps leads the CCAC in field goal percentage while also placing second in points per game.
Another Titan to record double digits in the scoring column was guard
Maddie Gard who finished with 15 points.
Gard's 15 points came on 50% shooting from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line while also securing nine boards, falling just one rebound short of her second consecutive double-double.
At better than 16 points per game, Gard finds herself in fourth place in scoring in the conference while remaining in the top ten in field goal percentage.
The last Titan to score in double figures was guard
Jazmen Watts who finished with 14 points.
Watts' 14 points also came on just one missed field goal (5-6) while also connecting on two three pointers in just 23 minutes of action.
With 14 points on Saturday, Watts is on the verge of entering the top 10 in scoring in the conference at nearly 13 points per game.
A tenacious IU South Bend defense forced 24 turnovers, led by fifth year guard
Emma Fisher who tied a career high with six steals.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, January 31st, when they travel to Joliet, Ill., to take on the Fighting Saints of Saint Francis at 6:00 PM ET.
