GRANGER, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (11-15, 3-5 CCAC) won both games of their doubleheader versus Judson University (6-20, 1-7 CCAC) taking game one 1-0 before defeating the Eagles 5-2 in game two.
Game 1
IU South Bend scored the only run of Tuesday's game one in the bottom of the third inning when center fielder
Braedon Leathed hit an RBI single to score
Josiah Nelson and give the Titans a 1-0 run lead.
One run was all the Titans would need in game one thanks to a combined shutout from right handed pitchers
Jack Kienzle and
Jake McKendry.
Kienzle started on the mound and pitched two innings without allowing a hit with a strikeout and leaving four Judson Eagles stranded on base.
McKendry came in for Kienzle in the top of the third inning and pitched the remainder of the game, allowing just three hits while striking out five to earn the victory in game one.
Leadoff hitter
Logan Smith reached base every time he came to the plate in game one, singling in all three of his at bats.
Game 2
IU South Bend jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when first baseman
Kaleb Farnham hit a 2 RBI single that scored
Logan Smith and
Evan Fortson to give the Titans a 2-0 lead through one inning of play.
IUSB tacked on another run in the bottom of the second when catcher
Anthony Pohl hit a sacrifice fly to score
Devin Smith and extend the Titans lead to 3-0.
The Titans scoring continued in the fourth inning when
Kaleb Farnham picked up his third RBI of the game, doubling home
Evan Fortson to grow the IUSB lead.
Judson scored their first run of the doubleheader in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground out before the Titans responded with another run in the seventh when
Josiah Nelson singled to score shortstop
Jack Ryan.
The Eagles made things interesting the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring one run and bringing the tying run to the plate but ultimately fell short as IU South Bend took game two by a final score of 5-2.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Friday, March 29th, when they travel to Davenport, Iowa, for a doubleheader against Saint Ambrose University starting at 2:00 PM ET.
